Professor Alan Walker
Coordinator

Dr Alan Walker is Professor of Social Policy and Social Gerontology at the University of Sheffield, UK. He has been researching and writing on aspects of ageing and social policy for over 30 years. He was Director of the New Dynamics of Ageing Programme funded by the AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC and MRC, and of two FP7 projects, Innovage – Social Innovations Promoting Active and Healthy Ageing and MOPACT – Mobilising the Potential of Active Ageing in Europe.

Previously he directed the European Research Area in Ageing (2002–2012) and Futurage, which created the Road Map for Ageing Research in Europe in 2011. Previously he directed the UK Growing Older Programme and the European Forum on Population Ageing. He also chaired the European Observatory on Ageing and Older People.

He has published more than 20 books, 200 reports and 300 scientific papers. In 2007 he was given Lifetime Achievement Awards by both the Social Policy Association and the British Society of Gerontology. In 2011 he was the first IAGG European Region Medal for Advances in Gerontology and Geriatrics in the Social and Behavioural Sciences and became a Fellow of the British Academy.

Sarah Howson
Senior Research Manager

Sarah joined the MOPACT team in July 2016 and coordinated the day-to-day activities of the consortium and ensured that all reporting and legal requirements were met. She joined the University in 2002 and has worked on various research projects over the years.

Sarah worked on Alan Walker’s New Dynamics of Ageing Research Programme and has extensive experience of Research Council funding and impact. She previously worked on a research project focusing on using evidence-informed practice to promote better outcomes for children and their families where she ran numerous workshops, conferences and events.

Prior to this she worked for an event management company specialising in event management and exhibitions. She has a BA(Hons) degree in Tourism and Recreation Management.

Dina Al-Huraibi
Finance Officer

Dina joined the team in a financial and administrative support role, aiding Sarah Howson with the day-to-day running of the project along with budget maintenance for both Sheffield University and the other partners. She moved over from a previous position working as a finance assistant in a different department, the role involved running financial claims and budgeting for a wide range of EC backed projects. Dina has been employed at Sheffield University since 2013.
