NETSPAR International Pension Workshop

Netspar stimulates innovative academic research in all disciplines in the social sciences related to ageing and retirement. For the Netspar International Pension Workshop to be organized in January 2017, Netspar invites contributions from all areas of Netspar’s research program.

Topics of interest are:

  • Wellbeing and welfare of older people

  • Communications and choice

  • Work, retirement, housing, and healthcare

  • Savings, investments and insurance

  • Institutions, governance and solidarity

In line with the topics above, Netspar contributes to the EU program MOPACT: Mobilising the potential of active ageing in Europe. The MOPACT-program is ending in February 2017 and Netspar invites MOPACT-contributors to present their results to the audience of the Netspar International Pension Workshop.

MOPACT Final Conference

The MOPACT Final Conference presented the findings of the MOPACT project and proposed the policies to make ageing a social and economic asset for Europe.

Since the project started in March 2013, MOPACT’s consortium of 32 partners has drawn on high quality science to develop innovative approaches that can assist public authorities, at all levels in Europe.

The project started from the conviction that Europe requires a new paradigm of ageing to successfully respond to the challenges of demographic change. During this one-day conference MOPACT will present its proposals for rethinking ageing across the five main dimensions of economic and social impact:

  • Economic and financial consequences of ageing

  • Societal structures, civil society and cohesion

  • Social support, long-term care and quality of life in an ageing society

  • Built and technological environment and the silver economy

  • Health and well-being, biological ageing and the boundaries of frailty

Chaired by Frank Vandenbroucke, former Belgian Minister of Social Policy, the opening speech was be delivered by Ruth Paserman, Deputy Head of Cabinet, DG Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility. There was also speeches by Heinz Becker, EPP, LIBE and EMPL Committees.

Economic Aspects of Demographic Change Workshop

17–18 June 2016

The Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (Etla) and University of Würzburg organized a two-day workshop with title ‘Economic Aspects of Demographic Change’ on 17 June 2016 at Etla in Helsinki. This workshop was part of the research project Mobilising the Potential of Active Ageing in Europe (MoPAct), which is funded by the European Union under the 7th Framework Programme.

This 13 presentations of the workshop analysed the recent demographic trends from the economic point of view with rich set of research questions, methods and data. The total number of participants was 20 covering 11 countries and 16 universities and other research units.

MOPACT – Active Ageing Forum 3

The MOPACT Active Ageing Forum is dedicated to appraising MOPACT’s findings, and to collecting ideas and guidance about innovative ways to develop the work and maximise its impact.

This was the final Forum and took place in the last year of the project. It provided key stakeholders with the chance to review and comment on the policy implications of thematic cross-disciplinary findings in support of the operationalisation of Active Ageing.

A limited number of funded places were made available to key stakeholders from policy, practice, business and those representing older people.

  • Health and well-being, biogerontology, and frailty

The MOPACT Active Ageing Forum was dedicated to appraising MOPACT’s interim findings, and to collecting ideas and guidance about innovative ways to develop the work and maximise its impact. This Forum provided participants with the chance to engage with the project’s activities and provide input on decisions about future plans. Due to its location in Estonia there was a particular emphasis on ensuring the challenges of active ageing in the EU’s new member states are reflected in the project.

This was the second of three events which draw key stakeholders into the decision making process for MOPACT.

MOPACT Active Ageing Forum

The MOPACT project (Mobilising the Potential of Active Ageing in Europe) will provide the evidence upon which Europe can begin to make longevity an asset for social and economic development. Funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme, the project draws together a multidisciplinary team to target the key challenges of ageing across five dimensions of social and economic impact:

  • Economic and financial consequences of ageing

  • Societal structures, civil society and cohesion

  • Social support, long-term care and quality of life

  • The built and technological environment

  • Health and well-being, biogerontology, and frailty

The MOPACT Active Ageing Forum was dedicated to appraising MOPACT’s interim findings, and to collecting ideas and guidance about innovative ways to develop the work and maximise its impact. This Forum facilitated active user engagement and decision making and provide attendees with a unique opportunity to shape project activities. This was the first of three events which will draw key stakeholders into the decision making process for MOPACT.

Funded places were available to key stakeholders from policy, practice, business and those representing older people, who can contribute to the project’s aims.
