The Research Society of Gerontology with the associated Institute of Gerontology was founded in 1990 and became associated to TU Dortmund University in 1995. The Institute of Gerontology concentrates on applied research, including policy consulting and evaluation of model programmes in the field of social gerontology and social policy.

The Institute of Gerontology´s three main subject areas:

  1. Circumstances, ways of life and social integration

  2. Employment, business and technology

  3. Senior citizens´ policies – scientific advice and planning for municipalities

To conduct relevant research activities, the scientific staff are a multi-disciplinary team of sociologists, psychologists, political scientists and educational scientists. Currently, about 16 scientists from these professions are employed at the Institute of Gerontology. Wide experience has been gained in numerous international and national projects.

Personnel involved in the project

Gerd Naegele, director of the Institute of Gerontology at TU Dortmund University. His role in MOPACT will be:

  1. Senior Research Manager and Project Leader of Extending working lives,

  2. TUD/IfG-project-leader as partner in Built and technological environment, ICT, housing, transport and mobility;

  3. TUD/IfG project-leader as partner in Social support and long-term care;

  4. Co-Contributor to Dissemination/Management (in agreement with USFD);

  5. Member of the Steering Committee for Built and technological environment.

Main tasks attributed to them in the project

As leader of Extending working lives TUD/IfG will contribute to the following tasks (as explicitly mentioned in the WP description):

  • Task 1: Building a conceptual framework

  • Task 2: Mapping the current “state of the art”

  • Task 3: Identifying and assessing motivations for and attitudes towards extended working lives

  • Task 4: Identifying and assessing structural drivers of and barriers to innovation

  • Task 5: Building innovative scenarios

As partner of Built and technological environment, ICT, housing, transport and mobility, in agreement with the WP-Leader IAT TUD/IfG will contribute within Built and technological environment to:

  • Task 7.1: Trend-monitoring (in particular funding strategies, business models, policy framework, role of social innovations)

  • Task 7.2: Case studies of best practice (particularly in terms of gerontological inputs and those of social innovations)

  • Task 7.3: Multi-level review and validation (in particular with respect to eco-gerontological dimensions and international experiences)

As partner of Social support and long-term care, in agreement with WP-leader EUROPEAN CENTRE TUD/IfG will contribute to:

  • Solutions which are based on social innovations

  • Policy-mix-solutions

  • Technological and eco-gerontological dimensions of solutions

  • Reconciling work and care (national and international dimensions)

  • Successful international approaches

  • Economic dimensions of professional social support and Long-Term-Care

  • Contributions by the informal sector

As partner of Dissemination and Management, TUD/IfG will support the dissemination process of the project findings and the Management organisation actively –in agreement with USFD.
